Cloud computing 'shows need for internet priorities'
Certain things should be looked into before using hosted IT services, it has been said.
Writing for eWeek, Dave Kofflin, a contributor to Knowledge Centre, outlined a number of ways in which businesses can ensure their deployment of resource scheduling software or customer relationship management (CRM) could be much more successful.
He first emphasised how important it is to understand the existing bandwidth demands per internet user, as well as by department and the company at large, as it could rise.
Mr Kofflin explained: "This allows the IT staff to appropriately scale the internet connection and prioritise and shape traffic to meet the bandwidth demands of cloud applications."
Furthermore, internet priorities should also be promoted as "data prioritisation becomes critical", with the specialist noting that an individual IP consuming 30 per cent of a firm's bandwidth will become unworkable.
He added: "Prioritise cloud and SaaS [software-as-a-service] applications and throttle traffic to make sure bandwidth is appropriately allocated."
Last week, AMR Research discovered that CRM is the most commonly-deployed cloud computing item of business management software.
