Cloud computing adoption 'up 320%'
A new survey has discovered that the popularity of cloud computing has shot up in the first nine months of 2009.
The poll, carried out by Avanade in conjunction with over 500 companies in 17 countries, discovered that the recession had not weathered the interest in virtualised environments supporting the likes of business management software.
Many, it identified, were instead impressed with the extensive cost savings and inherent scalability associated with such services and instead were more inclined to invest as they cut down on in-house fees, server costs and other prices associated with legacy systems.
"It is clear that cloud computing is not an all-or-nothing proposition. There is an adoption curve that is taking place," said Tyson Hartman, the global chief technology officer at Avanade.
"For businesses, this trend toward software-as-a-service has distinct business benefits including increased operational elasticity, IT cost reductions and increased connection with various stakeholders."
According to Gartner earlier this month, cloud computing was the first item in the Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2010.
