SaaS is 'more for small businesses'

Small businesses in India and beyond are being encouraged to use the likes of project management software as the method it is delivered through can be beneficial to them, it is said.

Venguswamy Rangaswamy, the head of SMB business at Tata Consultancy Services, told CIOL that while software-as-a-service (SaaS) is not a service business model which serves IT as a true technological innovation at this time, many small companies (SMBs) can benefit from its adoption.

Furthermore, the expert believes that it is much safer to use the method just in case a disaster happens, or a worker at the company causes problems for the integrity of the data in one way or another.

Mr Rangaswamy continued: "Data residing on a customer's premises is more vulnerable than keeping it in your provider's data centre because most of the SMBs do not have effective security policies in place when compared to large companies."

This week, a Websense poll discovered that while many people wanted to lower costs, they were unhappy to take a SaaS security solution despite the safety of doing so in comparison to current systems.
