Lack of control is 'main concern' with cloud computing

A recent study by Avanade found that people are embracing cloud computing more than ever, with the company registering a 320 per cent jump in subscriptions since January 2009.

However, the research also found that many organisations are showing little support for cloud-only models, with only five per cent of respondents utilising cloud computing alone - something which one expert has addressed.

Director of product management at Platform Computing Martin Harris said that in his own experience of customer engagement, many see the lack of control as a major issue for everyone to overcome.

However, he added that with security usually being the major issue, he was surprised that lack of control was the top bone of contention for businesses using the likes of project management software and online timesheets.

He went on to say: "Without that control level there's really no way to ensure the service level that the business is achieving and they are looking for a central control mechanism to enable that."
