Online environment will 'shift towards mobile means'
The number of people using 3G mobile broadband in the UK will surpass those anchored to fixed lines within the next two years, according to a new survey.
In the research carried out by mobileSQUARED, it was discovered that by 2011, there will be over 36 million 3G mobile devices across the country as well as around 6.5 million 3G mobile dongles or embedded modems, resulting in just under 43 million users of the service.
It highlights the shifting and virtualised nature of the internet, which will likely be complemented with a bigger uptake of business management software as many people move away from the office and legacy programs.
Nick Lane, the chief analyst at mobileSQUARED, explained that mobile methods will become the leading access point for businesses and brands communicating with consumers within the next two years.
He continued: "Mobile is always-on and the average user carries their device for an average of 16 hours a day. So if a company or brand is not already considering how to use mobile, then they need to because their customers are."
The news comes at the same time as Orange launches its newest marketing campaign to promote the benefits of adopting its 3G mobile broadband package.
