IT constraints 'demand SaaS'
More companies are investing in software-as-a-service (SaaS) because it has too many benefits to ignore, it is said.
Jonathan Lampe, the vice-president of research and development at Ipswitch, explained: "In this economy, it's increasingly common for companies to invest less in the physical infrastructure or IT staff it takes to administer and maintain on-premises software, such as a secure managed file transfer solution."
He said that as a result, the answer is for companies to create a simulated IT department using SaaS services such as project management software and resource scheduling software as these hosted services have a range of benefits.
Mr Lampe said these include increased flexibility on budgeting and lower up-front costs, as well as deployment within hours of purchase and the lack of necessity to have IT administrators as the software is maintained by the provider.
Furthermore, there is likely 100 per cent network uptime, meaning such things are "worry-free".
Mr Lampe's comments mirror those made by David Pratt of CRN, who said that the selling points for the system of delivery are "straightforward".
