SaaS is 'becoming more of a security investment'

Small business management software is becoming central to a lot of companies looking for security for their data.

Jay Bourland of Pitney Bowes spoke to Forbes about trends in the technology industry, noting that many businesses are looking to centralise their data in a safe and easily-accessible environment, with software-as-a-service (SaaS) being particularly popular.

He explained: "One of the interesting things we're starting to see with SaaS and outsourcers and people who are expert at managing data over the internet is that when companies move to these models it's starting to be seen as a plus for security rather than a negative."

Mr Bourland added that the overall success of this model or business is generally dependent on security, so most organisations are highly committed to providing it, though others see it more as context rather than a "core idea".

This week, Nick Garlick, the managing director of the Nebulas Solutions Group, said businesses will overlap public and private cloud computing models in 2010 for applications based on their need for security.
