Large enterprises 'must approach SaaS in different way'

Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is definitely popular today, according to an expert, who states that its backers enjoy both fast deployment and low entry costs.

Andre Yee of ebizQ explained that uptake is particularly strong among smaller companies, as larger enterprises are faced with a number of factors including the issues of scalability, security and reliability.

The specialist noted that there is a part of winning the large enterprise market that many SaaS vendors do not seem to cotton on to, in that the "specific rhythm and requirements" of bigger companies are hugely different from smaller investors.

"Here's my point - large enterprises aren't simply bigger versions of small enterprises," Mr Yee continued. "They actually have dramatically different needs linked to managing operational scale and risks."

The expert noted that in particular, they are "unapologetically late adopters" of mission critical technology - a culture which clashes with the SaaS model of regular updates.

Earlier in the month, John Appleby, the chairman of Saaspoint, emphasised how IT professionals are not suspicious of SaaS despite market myths and are, in fact, quite the opposite.
