Further broadband plans 'not developed'

Companies using small business management software have not been given any further information about the government's policies on the upgrades to be made to broadband across the UK, it is asserted.

Michael Phillips, the product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, made his comments in response to the Queen's opening speech to parliament earlier this week.

Said Her Majesty: "My government will introduce a bill to ensure the communications infrastructure is fit for the digital age, supports future economic growth, delivers competitive communications and enhances public service broadcasting."

And while Mr Phillips said the "encouraging" words of the Queen highlighted the government's desire to push forward with Digital Britain, it did little or nothing to add to what has already been a "vague and underwhelming" report.

He added that aside from confirming the £6 broadband levy, the central authority did not explain how it would be financing the "inevitable" shortfall of funding or provide any more detailed physical implementation plans.

Mr Phillips concluded that the 2MB commitment for 2012 will not be realised unless the government speeds up its plans.
