Companies 'must adapt security' alongside cloud computing
The adoption of such things as mobile devices, small business management software and collaborative technologies is becoming more commonplace, yet organisations are unable to adapt security policies at the same pace and are potentially compromising sensitive corporate and personal data.
That was the conclusion of the Worldwide State of the Endpoint 2010 study, which was commissioned by Lumension and carried out by data protection organisation the Ponemon Institute last week, gaining comment from a leading expert in information security.
Senior security researcher with the global research and analysis team at Kaspersky David Emms said that the issue needs much more attention from a number of organisations.
He said: "The most immediate consequence of a loss of data would be embarrassment and loss of reputation for the organisation itself.
"The huge impact it has on a company's reputation ... will mean that they will take steps to avoid it."
Mr Emms concluded that organisations not taking the best steps to conserve their resource scheduling software or online timesheets will be investigated by the Information Commissioner's Office, which is on an increasingly high alert over such issues.
