Cloud computing is 'great for small businesses'

Small businesses looking to get the most out of their budgets should turn to cloud computing because of the raft of benefits it can bring, it has been underlined.

Robert Whiteside, an expert in technology with Fresh Business Thinking, said that while it was far from reality not so long ago, cloud computing has become mainstream today, though many smaller firms are unclear as to what cloud computing is and how it can benefit their day-to-day operations.

He argued that cost savings could be higher than many think, explaining: "Businesses that move to the cloud can make savings on many different levels - IT hardware and software expenditure is cut dramatically and fewer staff or support resources are needed for IT maintenance."

Furthermore, productivity could be vastly improved, as one of the main benefits of cloud computing is that employees are able to locate documents and emails while away from the main office.

This may complement the future direction of business, according to the Confederation of British Industry, which stated in a report this week that flexible working will evolve into a more regular fixture over the coming months.
