Cloud computing provides 'greater level of security'

Cloud computing can provide greater levels of security than traditional legacy IT systems, according to an expert in small business management software.

Robert Whiteside, as part of his specialist guidance for resource scheduling and project management software users with Fresh Business Thinking, said that a vast number of cloud computing suppliers employ top-level security experts to manage accounts.

As a result, "vast amounts" of money are put into securing applications behind the scenes and allow such companies to develop technology beyond what many small businesses can achieve through their own resources, particularly given the effects of the recession on budgets.

He added: "In addition, the risk of losing confidential data on a laptop or a USB stick is also diminished, as everything is stored in the cloud and not on your devices."

The Information Commissioner's Office oversees cases of data loss in instances where laptops and USB sticks go missing, leading it to heavily fine such companies as PA Consulting, which was hired by the Home Office.
