European Commission applauds cloud computing

The growth of cloud computing services such as resource scheduling software and project management software has been hailed by the European Commission, it has been reported.

According to recent coverage from V3, director of consultancy firm PAC Frederic Giron revealed the findings of research during a conference call that the web-based software market will see compound annual growth of just over 20 per cent over the course of 12 years.

Despite this, Mr Giron warned that research and development support from public authorities is needed to bring growth to the industry, which is fragmented due to the varieties of the European financial markets.

"It's one of the key challenges which the European Commission will have to address in the next few years: how we can try to remove this barrier to growth," he told V3.

Earlier this year, Gartner, the world's leading consultancy service, recommended cloud computing as one of its top ten strategic technologies of 2010.
