Cost is 'major factor' with SaaS

The use of hosted software sometimes boils down to the most basic of business requirements, according to a leading technology strategist.

TechRepublic's Scott Lowe, the chief information officer of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, told ZDNet that the adoption of cloud computing services such as online time billing and project management software often boil down to a basic factor of cost, particularly in the current climate.

"If it's cheaper to buy and integrate a third party solution, or to move a solution to an outsourcer, that is often the best way to go, particularly for IT shops with limited development resources," he continued.

He said that in Westminster College, there are very limited development resources to hand so the company instead makes use of this chance to adopt third party products and services as a solution.
