SaaS is 'limitless'

While many small and medium-sized enterprises will be getting in on the action with software-as-a-service (SaaS), it is the scalability which makes it even more attractive to bigger companies, according to one source.

A representative for Datacraft spoke to CIOL about the flexibility and cost savings that are to be had with the new method of software delivery, explaining that it is the "significant economies of sale" which truly add value for bigger corporations.

The spokesperson explained: "Most organisations don't scale past tens of thousands of users, while cloud providers will ultimately provide services for millions of users."

It was also noted that providers of cloud computing are working towards "lights-out data centre operations" to lower costs even more, contrasting against legacy software owners who run expensive storage area networks which will be "allocated parsimoniously".

This week, it was revealed that the Victoria Country Fire Authority is using a system of customer relationship management in order to prevent forest fires by notifying locals about any potential threats.
