Productivity and security 'boosted by the cloud'

Cloud computing has too many benefits to ignore, according to an expert.

Head of Google Enterprise for the UK, Ireland and Benelux Robert Whiteside put together a list of things to consider when starting up with business management software when it is based in the cloud, Bytestart revealed.

He said that productivity is majorly boosted due to the ability to access things from anywhere, and if a business demands mobility and flexibility, the cloud can be straightforward and affordable in addressing both of these needs.

Mr Whiteside continued: "Cloud computing can be more secure than traditional IT. It's all about economies of scale - many established cloud suppliers employ leading security experts, invest vast amounts of money into securing their applications and develop technology beyond the means of any small business."

Additionally, the risk of losing any confidential data through the loss of a laptop or a USB stick is also removed, he added, as everything is stored online and not on devices.

Earlier this month, Datacraft explained that most software offerings do not scale past tens of thousands of users, though cloud providers will "ultimately provide services for millions of users".
