Facebook popularity shows possibilities of social media

Companies ought to look into Facebook as a viable platform for their operations if they are to adopt customer relationship management (CRM) and other business management software, it is believed.

Tim Gibbon, the co-founder of the Social Media Portal, made his comments after Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook reported that 350 million people are now using the platform - equivalent to no less than one in every 19 people across the globe.

Despite this, companies must ensure they are on top of such an idea because of the sheer amount of information that users may submit to their space or share with their friends, as it could cause concern if not managed properly.

Mr Gibbon concluded: "With social networks possessing so much data, the obvious route of profiling and research is possible, which could be risky for organisations that debate and champion privacy issues."

In his report, Mr Zuckerberg also revealed that 50 per cent of Facebook users are members of regional networks.
