Managers 'fear loss of infrastructure control' with SaaS

One of the major fears of implementing business management software or software-as-a-service (SaaS) is that there is a loss of infrastructure control, though this may be unsubstantiated, one expert believes.

Mary Kay Roberto of the E-Commerce Times explained that nowadays, the general sophistication of technology has allowed for the industry to move away from a lack of control and provide the best of both worlds: the retaining of control while also getting "timely support".

She said that organisations ought to prioritise grid computing providers as the event of an outage or corruption will allow for cloud computing networks to shift data to other locations or across multiple locations instead of simply providing a single point of possible failure.

"Rich SaaS implementations are every bit as powerful as on-premise solutions and allow the administrator to maintain control of the application without dealing with the environmental requirements."

It follows comments from Jason Falls, a social media consultant and blogger for socialmediaexplorer.com, who said that businesses need to learn how to re-engage their customer base through SaaS such as customer relationship management.
