Resource scheduling implementation pains 'avoided by planning'
Businesses can regularly run into problems when establishing business management software, though in reality it simply requires a little more thought before the whole thing is put into place, according to an expert.
Michael Dean said that when adopting resource scheduling and project management software (ERP), more planning is, rather ironically, necessary before the planning technology can be used with greater ease.
He explained that the complexity of ERP solutions requires particularly thorough planning, adding that there is less likelihood of an implementation going wrong and cost going up as a result of this mistake.
Mr Dean added: "You need to fully understand what you want from the system now, what you may want in two years' time, and ask your solution provider to demonstrate that they can address the critical points before you start implementation."
In a recent survey for Agresso, it was discovered that the inability to easily modify an ERP system is one of the most disruptive forces for businesses and can delay product launches, slow decision making or delay acquisitions, showing that a poorly thought-out plan could be fatal.
