CIOs should 'consider a few things' before moving to the cloud
Chief information officers (CIOs) moving to cloud computing applications, such as business management software, must consider a number of things before taking the plunge, it is believed.
In an interview with Federal News Radio this week, Nick Piazzola of VeriSign explained a few major pointers for bosses hoping to save money and resources through this strategy.
He said that security of a service in the cloud must at least match what would usually be available if the service was being provided through a self-hosted effort.
Furthermore, Mr Piazzola said that businesses must concern themselves with the reliability and availability of the service, particularly if it is hosting mission-critical applications such as customer relationship management or project management software.
He concluded: "I think that's the thing that the management needs to understand. If they pick the right application and the right service provider, they'll actually get enhanced availability for security than if they did it themselves."
This month, Mary Kay Roberto said that many sceptics of software-as-a-service say that security is a concern, though she asserted that they had "no grounds for reality".
