IT will 'cut costs for business in 2010'

Technology is central to the recovery process for a number of companies in the UK, according to a recent interview with an expert in IT consulting.

Mark Raskino, a research vice-president with Gartner, spoke to silicon.com about a recent report into IT's role in post-recession strategies, with nearly half of respondents to his organisation's questionnaire answering positively about computing's role.

He explained that there will be a long and slow period of growth for many organisations, which will gradually iron out all instances of inefficiency while consolidating technological assets.

Mr Raskino added: "The other area they are interested in is using tech as a way of driving revenue growth, which is a relatively new idea that has come about recently in the era of CRM [customer relationship management] and the internet."

CRM is an asset that ought to have training prior to use, according to Jason Falls of socialmediaexplorer.com, with the expert noting that marketers have forgotten how to hold conversations with customers, instead opting to shout at them for the last few decades.
