Apprehension towards business management software is 'surprising'

New research has outlined how many UK businesses are intimidated by software-as-a-service (SaaS).

The study, carried out by RainStor, discovered that just 22 per cent of UK companies are already using a SaaS application, whereas 49 per cent of US companies are doing the same.

Additionally, 28 per cent of firms in the UK want to make use of SaaS in the near future, despite 42 per cent of US organisations claiming they would be.

Andy Ben-Dyke, the chief technology officer at RainStor, said that there is a clear "degree of apprehension" towards cloud computing and business management software.

He asserted that this was more surprising than anything else, particularly in light of pressures on IT budgets, though it is "incumbent" on the IT sector to respond to concerns regarding security and liability.

"The concept of SaaS data escrow and providing companies with a facility to keep copies of their SaaS data will go a long way to minimising these concerns and speed up cloud adoption," Mr Ben-Dyke concluded.

This week, it was revealed by Star that only 46 per cent of UK businesses have adopted customer relationship management (CRM).
