SaaS future has 'predictably bright future'

The growing importance of software-as-a-service (SaaS), cloud computing and associated business management software is plain to see, according to one expert in the topic.

Jeffrey Kaplan, who looked over his own predictions for 2009 in a piece for Seeking Alpha, explained that the popularity of hosted IT services have gone all the way to the top: the US government.

He quoted Vivek Kundra, the chief information officer of the Obama administration, who spoke to the Wall Street Journal earlier in the year about their embrace with SaaS.

Mr Kundra said: "I'm all about the cloud computing notion. I look at my lifestyle, and I want access to information wherever I am. I am killing projects that don't investigate SaaS first."

This has been followed up, much to the predictions of Mr Kaplan, with a dedicated government portal for SaaS, promising that the future will be bright for the industry.

Earlier this month, Richard Doherty of Jobpartners told PublicTechnology.net that IT solutions such as SaaS will reach a new maturity and will be more trusted and therefore adopted.
