SaaS 'great for avoiding software licence costs'

A major bonus of buying hosted project management software or online time billing software instead of installed software offerings has been highlighted by an expert in the technology sector.

Kim Mays of IT Business Edge explained that business management software from online providers eliminates the need for a company to buy costly software licences, as everything is cleared with the creator of the software as it is given directly to firms via the internet.

Business users of SaaS applications also do not need to download any upgrades or patches to the software as the vendor centrally performs these, she added.

This, Ms Mays explained, is particularly attractive to many smaller businesses as they need fewer IT staff working internally to ensure everything is up to speed.

Her comments follow a report by Analysys Mason which found that cloud computing has helped firms to benefit from reduced costs and increased efficiency - something valuable in the recession.
