Businesses will 'gain greater understanding of SaaS' this year

Businesses will be more aware of their rights, desires and demands from software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendors in the coming months, paving the way for a new trend in 2010, it has been said.

Lily Mok, the vice president of Gartner's CIO Research, told Network World that IT outsourcing will continue to be of major importance in 2010, while the skill sets to manage vendor relationships and track performance will be "highly valued".

She continued: "Companies will want to consolidate vendors, find better deals with existing vendors, really understand their contracts in terms of costs and performance, and renegotiate contracts to find better options."

David Foote, the chief executive officer of Foote Partners and an expert in business management software, said that this shows that about half of all enterprises have bought managed IT services, with a large amount of interest surrounding in-house skills and managed IT services.

Yet while Ms Mok points out that business relationships between IT partners must improve, the implementation of business management software such as resource scheduling could be doomed to failure should a company not have internal clarity as well, according to Saideep Raj in comments to Computerworld UK.
