Attractive alternative to IT 'found in SaaS'
Software-as-a-service (SaaS), when compared to on-premise computing, is an attractive alternative, according to the latest release from a market research firm.
Companiesandmarkets.com revealed that a number of businesses are turning to the SaaS model to get certain applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) and project management software.
Additionally, a small yet increasing number of providers are also turning to SaaS for more complex applications, such as resource scheduling and supply chain management, the survey found.
Despite this, SaaS must be treated in the same way as all other software, with Companiesandmarkets.com underlining the need to "ask vendors the same questions" including those about service levels, costs and other issues.
It added: "SaaS providers' answers to some of those questions may not be ideal because, for example, long-term costs are usually higher for SaaS than for on-premise computing."
CRM has recently been taken onboard by Pepsi, which decided this year to axe its famous annual Super Bowl advert in favour of a more direct approach to marketing.
