SaaS will 'power data centre use'

The use of data centres is set to rise as a result of the adoption of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud computing, according to a new report.

Telehouse commissioned a national survey looking into the use of data centres, finding that 83 per cent of over 100 senior IT professionals would be upping their use of such facilities, largely due to the adoption of hosted services such as project management software and online time billing.

Furthermore, around 80 per cent of respondents believed that securing access to data centre capacity would be "critical or important" in the next five years.

Commenting on the results, Michelle Reid, sales and marketing director at Telehouse, said: "The results of our survey indicate that demand for data centre capacity will continue to increase over the next five years, fuelled by SaaS and cloud computing, but we should not underestimate the future impact of governance and the pressure it will put on capacity too."

It follows a report from IT Business Edge's Kim Mays who said that software as a service will become widely adopted due to the lack of need for software licences.
