Businesses 'must adopt cloud computing now'
All of the arguments in favour of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud computing have only become stronger in the modern business environment, according to an expert in the industry.
Jeffrey Kaplan, the managing director of an independent consulting firm focused on the on-demand services provided by a number of organisations, said to Datamation that the current economic climate is in disarray and is uncertain of its future.
Costs associated with powering corporate data centres and servers are still high, he asserted, adding that competitive pressures continue to intensify meaning that organisations must respond with the correct money-saving procedures, such as an investment in business management software.
"The time to consider these alternatives is over," Mr Kaplan concluded. "Those who don't make the move in 2010 will not only be left behind but will risk losing their jobs as well."
Last week, Piers Linney, the joint chief executive officer of Outsourcery, said that the disruption caused by the recent snow has created immense problems for thousands of small businesses, though many operation problems can be avoided by homeworkers with business management software.
