UK ranks 26th in broadband league table

The UK is not up to the abilities of its international cousins when it comes to the speed which small business management software could be delivered, a new survey has discovered.

Akamai carried out research into the average speeds reported by every country in the world, with Great Britain coming out a disappointing 26th in the world with an average speed of 3.4Mbit/s and with 73 per cent of connections above 2Mbit/s.

South Korea was the runaway winner of the poll, with the country registering a whopping 14.5Mbit/s, with the country having an average of one connection for every four people in the country.

The Netherlands and Ireland also returned scores well above those in the UK, with 5.2Mbit/s and 5.3Mbit/s respectively.

It follows news from earlier in the month from Broadband.co.uk that the average connection speed in the UK jumped by 22 per cent during 2009 alone, setting up more companies for smoother use of business management software.
