Broadband customers 'paying too much'

New research has discovered that over half of broadband customers paying for 'unlimited' download allowances are not taking full advantage of download capacities and are paying hundreds of pounds a year more than they need to.

Broadbandchoices.co.uk's survey highlights the impact which the wrong package may have on small business management software users and whether or not their investments are sound.

Michael Phillips, the product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said that the survey shows the vast majority of broadband users are spending less than two hours a week on individual activities including music downloading, watching videos or watching and downloading TV programmes or films.

He asserted that too many people are simply paying for a service they are not making full use of and are, in effect, "throwing money down the drain"

Mr Phillips concluded: "Broadband customers should shop around for a deal to suit their usage needs using an Ofcom accredited price comparison site - those who do could save themselves £100 a year or more."

This week, BT launched its fibre-optic broadband service for businesses which promise download speeds of up to 40Mbps with prices starting at around £30 per month.
