SaaS is a 'great for ITSM enablement'

IT service management (ITSM) provides a low-risk entry point for businesses seeking to experiment with business management software, according to comments from a leading technology expert.

Ovum explained that the leading benefit of software-as-a-service (SaaS) for ITSM is that it aims at the heart of the "now commonly overstretched" IT function, meaning that small IT resources can be redirected from internal IT systems to focus on delivery models for more business-critical data and services.

It continued: "However, for many organisations the key benefit of SaaS is its simple, subscription-based pricing model - usually a cost per month (or year) per user that covers everything needed to operate, including support and maintenance."

Despite this, the investor must be able to customise their offering as, without this facility, the business case for SaaS is "not so compelling".

According to Springboard Research, India is the fastest-growing SaaS market in the world, climbing at a compound annual growth rate of 60 per cent from 2008 to 2012.
