Ofcom praises new EU regulatory body
Ofcom has welcomed the formation of a key body for the furthering of internet connectivity, rights and judgements.
The Body of European Regulations in Electronic Communications (BEREC) is made up of a set of 27 regulators from each of the EU member states and will work to regulate the next generation of super-fast broadband, possibly paving the way for better working conditions for business management software users.
It will also maintain net neutrality and establish competitive telecoms markets by creating separate businesses for local and backhaul network access.
Ed Richards, the chief executive of Ofcom, explained that the formation of BEREC is a "major step forward" and will work to improve consistency and quality regulation quality across the EU as a whole.
He added: "BEREC establishes authority in the group of national regulators, working together to the common goal of serving the interests of consumers and the communications sector as a whole."
