Cloud computing 'gathering a steady pace'

Cloud computing has a level of popularity and is bringing around a number of repeat customers, according to a recent survey from e-mail service provider Mimecast.

Despite its immaturity in regards to the rest of the market, Mimecast discovered that business management software was popular, with 36 per cent of respondents proudly claiming to be using such solutions, CRN revealed.

The survey, which spoke to 565 IT decision makers, also concluded that of the 36 per cent of companies using cloud-based services, 70 per cent said they have more plans to move more applications into a virtualised environment.

Mary Kay Roberto, the senior vice president and general manager of Mimecast, explained that such changes in attitude are a sign of the times more than anything else.

She continued: "People are continuing to use the web and they're going back to it.

"It's getting ready to go into adolescence and move beyond just the early adopters."

Microsoft backed up this opinion recently, adding that there is a "tremendous level" of creative energy around cloud services right now.
