Online market 'will influence most sales by 2020'

Online retail is going to be huge and this is not surprising, according to one expert.

David Smith, director of operations at the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG), said that there are a number of key drivers towards an online-based retail economy, noting that the UK is a country where the accessibility to credit and credit cards means that it is very easy for people to buy online products.

The layout of the UK is also beneficial, he added, noting that in terms of deliveries, the UK is doing extremely well and retailers can easily distribute goods to consumers.

He continued: "We've had the growth of the multi-channel retailers. A lot of the big high street names are now going online and there is a lot there from a consumer point of view because they are shopping with traditional high street brands."

Many of these organisations are also adopting customer relationship management (CRM), showing the need for businesses to be savvy when attracting consumers.

Last month, Joshua Weinberger, managing editor of CRM magazine, said that CRM software is popular because companies have finally realised that retaining customers is "far more cost-effective than landing new ones".
