NASA chooses SaaS for climate services
In terms of endorsements of a certain form of technology, NASA is up there with the best of the best - and it is NASA that is now adopting business management software.
Speaking to Network World, Michael Seablom, head of the software integration and visualisation office at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, said that the measures will aid the organisation in its goal to deliver a great interface to students building complex climate models.
He said: "I hate to use the term 'cloud computing' because I've heard the term so much and I'm sick of it.
"But the fact of the matter is this is a very good cloud computing model and we're going to save a lot of money doing it. I'm very excited."
It is hoped that a climate model from NASA could predict what would happen to global temperatures over the next 100 years should humans double carbon dioxide emissions.
NASA still continues to aim for Saturn with its Cassini plans, though British involvement with the project has been stopped as of this week.
