Cloud computing 'constrained by internet speeds' among small businesses
Cloud computing will probably not boom among small and medium-sized businesses until high-speed internet access becomes more available to them, according to Analysys Mason.
Matt Yardley, partner at Analysys Mason, spoke at the Westminster eForum Keynote Seminar on cloud computing and business management software, explaining that in the UK, citizens are only just starting to see the new networks being rolled out, with higher-capability fibre networking technology.
He continued: "But, it's a long, long way off until we have full availability, ubiquitous coverage of those networks, particularly if we think about both fixed and mobile networks."
As a result, Mr Yardley believes there to be a decade before UK small and medium-sized businesses are able to capitalise on their market potential with a fully-operational system of communications.
According to Easynet Connect last month, 50 per cent of small businesses are using or planning to use cloud computing within 12 months, compared with 22 per cent at the end of 2008.
