SaaS 'shifts security worries from server to network'
Software-as-a-service (SaaS) and other businesses must wise up to their need to improve every part of their network, as the exporting of server-based applications through business management software will not deliver absolute safety, one man believes.
Trevor Dearing, head of enterprise marketing for Juniper Networks in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, gave a talk at Data Centre World entitled 'Is Data Centre Security Obscured by the Cloud?' and addressed how security is more important than ever.
He noted that the balance of safe approaches has simply changed, with the expert stating: "There is a danger we could end up with a really good server infrastructure, but without the necessary network security to support that."
Mr Dearing added that it was comparable to putting a great engine into an old or rusty car, adding that "if you don't fix the tyres and the suspension, you're going to run into a ditch".
It follows this week's release by Symantec, noting in its 2010 State of Enterprise Security Study that 75 per cent of organisations have experienced cyber attacks in the past 12 months.
