SMEs will 'increasingly adopt cloud computing' in 2010
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will likely allow IT budgets to include social networking and increase the use of software-as-a-service (SaaS) as well as mobile applications, according to an expert.
Pradipta Mukherjee of Sify.com explained that businesses are learning lessons after the recession and are looking for cheaper ways to enhance customer relationships, improve efficiency and increase revenues as a result.
He argued that from the perspective of an SME, this means that there needs to be an increased use of collaborative tools to improve networking.
As a result, Mr Mukherjee said there will be an accelerated adoption of key technologies such as project management software and other virtualised technologies.
"However, marketers will struggle to fully address the growing interest in SaaS and virtual infrastructure solutions, due to the amount of confusion in the value proposition and offerings that exist in the minds of SMEs," he added.
It follows advice from Enrique Salem of Symantec, who said that users of SaaS should ensure it complies with national laws.
