Rural group forms to highlight need for countryside broadband
A band of rural organisations have joined together in order to encourage the government to roll out 2Mbps broadband across the countryside, in a move that will potentially boost the use of business management software in the area.
The Final Third First group, which includes institutions such as the Country Land & Business Association (CLA) and Broadband Britain, wants to highlight the isolation that many of the UK's rural areas have been forced to access the internet through dial-up means.
Dr Charles Trotman, who represents the CLA, said to PC Advisor that without any action, areas not covered by current means will be put at a "severe disadvantage".
It follows pressure from a report published last week looking into the trials and tribulations of rural communities.
The government-appointed rural advocate Dr Stuart Burgess discovered that the long-term future of rural areas in the UK is under threat due to the number of young people who are being forced out of the countryside to find homes, jobs and support, as well as improved communications.
