Tory proposals questioned by technology expert
Small business management software users may not get much out of the latest proposals by the Tory government for broadband, it has been said.
Editor of ThinkBroadband.com Andrew Ferguson said that based on what has been previously announced, he sees "little change" in Tory proposals and added that the '100Mbps connection for most people' may mean that it could range between 60 per cent and 90 per cent of the population.
He added that they "make a lot of noise" on providing a connection up to 50 times faster when Labour have two plans instead: the first being to spend £200 million on a 2Mbps universal service commitment by 2012, followed by a 50p levy to add another 30 per cent next generation coverage on top of what private firms do.
It follows comment from Karen Price, chief executive of e-skills UK, the sector skills council for business and information technology, who explained that her group welcomes the recognition of the "immense strategic importance of technology to the UK economy".
The upgrade is key to innovation and global competitiveness, it was added.
