Enterprises 'turning to cloud for unified communications'

The Enterprise VPN (Virtual Private Network) Users Association (EVUA) has asserted that cloud computing may encourage large organisations to invest to adopt unified communications (UC) when they would usually be reluctant.

Jon Neville, the general manager at EVUA, made his comments at UC Expo, an enterprise business communications event which opened its doors to delegates Olympia, London between March 10th and 11th.

He explained that the rush to adopt UC is vast, noting that a number of affiliates are looking not to invest in new technology, but reduce what they've already got and total cost of investment (TCI), which is where business management software comes in handy.

Mr Neville continued: "The next step is going to cloud computing."

"[It] actually almost gets them around implementing UC solutions because they get everything off the cloud. Given that 2009, 2010, reduction of TCI is their high priority, cloud computing potentially has that benefit for them."
