IT organisations are 'migrating to SaaS'

An expert has asserted that IT organisations around the world are increasingly migrating away from regular IT software management (ITSM) organisations such as IBM and HP, instead favouring software-as-a-service (SaaS) alternatives from virtualisation specialists.

Jeffrey M Kaplan, a leading light in the industry of cloud computing, asserted that people are turning to business management software such as project management software for the same reasons as their business unit counterparts.

Such reasons included the frustration with costs and complexities associated with traditional on-premise offerings, while money remains a huge issue as IT departments are being forced to do more with less and struggle to afford inefficiencies associated with legacy software.

He continued: "Traditional ITSM wasn't designed with today's highly dispersed workplaces, mobility and cloud computing resources in mind.

"Technological advancements are making today's SaaS-based ITSM solutions more viable alternatives to legacy systems."

Last week, Jon Neville of the Enterprise VPN (Virtual Private Network) Users Association asserted that cloud computing may encourage large organisations to invest in and adopt unified communications in situations where they would usually be reluctant.
