Sales and marketing is 'primary focus' of recession-fighting small firms
Following cost-cutting operations to the bare minimum, a number of small firms are hiring staff to improve websites and boosting marketing activities - such as with customer relationship management (CRM) - to "tackle tough trading conditions", it has been revealed.
The Forum of Private Business (FPB) revealed that business owners expect efforts to pay off following this set of new ideals, with 56 per cent of respondents expecting to see increases in turnover during 2010, while another 44 per cent see business potential growing.
Findings form the first part of the FPB's Economy Watch panel, which has more than 350 members sharing experiences as the economy returns to pre-recession normality.
Thomas Parry, the FPB's research manager, said: "We appear to be seeing an upturn in confidence among SMEs and, by investing in sales and marketing strategies, small business owners are showing determination and entrepreneurial flair.
"However, much of this optimism is based on the hope of a recovering economy and increased business and consumer confidence."
The FPB is a proactive not-for-profit organisation that provides comprehensive business support and reassurance to small to medium-sized businesses across Britain.
