San Diego port authority adopts SaaS
San Diego Unified Port Authority has announced that it has ditched legacy servers and software in favour of a virtualised business management software model, it has been reported.
Security Director News revealed that the port switched providers and installed software to give better control over technology and also remove any issues surrounding storage restrictions through the utilisation of their partner's software-as-a-service (SaaS) model.
Ted Evans, IT manager at the Unified San Diego Port District, said: "Now we don't have to worry about it and the value of using the cloud is that we're just paying for what we use."
Scott Gordon, the vice-president of marketing and business development at AccelOps, the SaaS partner, added that little time and money were spent during procurement and the team could get the systems "up and running quickly and capture and store and get real-time analysis and historical data at their finger tips".
Jeffrey M Kaplan, a cloud computing expert, recently said that IT organisations are increasingly turning their backs on regular IT software management from organisations such as IBM and HP, instead favouring SaaS alternatives from virtualisation specialists.
