Cloud computing 'needs more trust'
People must ensure they are comfortable with the safety of their data with companies before business management software is widely adopted, according to new comments from a leading expert.
Simon Heron, internet security analyst at Network Box, said that enterprise data security is of the utmost importance, explaining: "This is going to become a major issue in 2010 and the reason why I think it really is quite significant is obviously the push towards cloud computing."
He asserted that this was down to the fact that with the likes of business management software, with companies putting all of their "precious data" into the hands of another organisation.
Mr Heron argued that there needs to be faith in businesses taking the considerable care to deploy very good authentication and ensure that all the data they store is encrypted so that even if a breach occurs, a further hack is required to make use of the information.
The Information Commissioner's Office is now able to order organisations to pay up to £500,000 as a penalty if they are found with any serious breaches of the Data Protection Act, it has been announced.
