Developments in cloud gaming 'could lead to platform expansion'
The first broadband-based cloud gaming platform, OnLive, is set to launch in the US on June 17th and if successful, it is expected to be rolled out internationally.
News has reached Guy Cocker, the editor of GameSpot UK, who emphasised that several technical issues - such as latency - could affect the gaming portal and present some interesting barriers that may mean the idea falters early.
Stressing how it is an issue that affects gaming over other things, he said: "For an interactive experience such as gaming, the latency needs to be as low as possible.
"OnLive claims that it has a solution to this problem, but it will only be when the service is rolled out that we'll see how it performs in a real-world environment."
Mr Cocker asserted that regardless of these concerns, the development will bring a new dimension to the online games industry and added that these exciting changes happen often enough in the games sector to garner support from the major players in the industry.
