Business management software is 'key driver' of data centres

The adoption of business management software through virtualised means is driving the popularity of data centres forward and could lead to improved employment in the industry, it has been argued.

Matt Munson, the group technical director for BlueSquare Data, explained that his company's perspective is that the increased working with clients and supporting new technologies has led to the conclusion that data centre usage growth is largely down to cloud computing.

He continued: "We have a lot of clients coming to us with virtualisation. And everybody has their own idea of what virtualisation is, so it's about working with customers to make sure we can fit what they want."

Mr Munson said that while everyone wanted 20 servers in a rack two years ago, it is now about the cloud and different storage devices such as blade servers, which are becoming more cost-effective.

His comments follow a recent report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, which discovered that the number of IT-ready candidates now outstrips demand for skills, though employers are expected to increase IT recruitment significantly as the economy picks up.
