More SMEs could be set up this year
Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) business management may become more prevalent this year thanks to the positive entrepreneurial environment.
This is the suggestion of business expert Julie Meyer, who believes that now is a particularly good time to establish an SME and that anyone considering doing so should before the economy fully recovers.
Despite major firms struggling at the hands of the recession, new independents businesses proved successful in 2009, with figures from the Local Data Company revealing that 11,000 more outlets opened last year than closed.
"Different parts of the economy are working at different speeds, but there's enormous new company creation and there's a lot of demand for start-up capital," Ms Meyer commented.
Ms Meyer went on to say that more people have learned to become better business managers and project planners earlier on in their careers, a trend that could increase demand for business management software.
The Local Data Company also revealed that more SMEs are occupying spaces on British high streets left behind by larger chains.
