Security SaaS 'booming', new report reveals

Worldwide revenues relating to security services delivered via software-as-a-service (SaaS) grew by a whopping 70 per cent in 2009, according to a new report.

Carried out by Infonetics Research, the survey discovered that this shift was primarily attributable to demand for content security services such as web, email and anti-virus security.

Jeff Wilson, a principal analyst for security at Infonetics, explained that this is particularly impressive given the global financial meltdown that began in mid-2008, showing that SaaS continues to weather the storm.

Primary market drivers noted down by the expert include increasing global demand from all organisations due to security threats of all types, current security solution complexity and the widespread use of devices.

He added: "Strong interest in and broad availability of SaaS security offerings will help drive strong growth in the overall managed security services market over the next five years."

Companies are prioritising their existing customers over obtaining new ones, a new report by Gartner revealed, which could involve firms using small business management software more effectively.
