IT departments 'should flag security issues of new technologies'

When businesses adopt new technologies, such as timesheet software, it is the job of an IT department to point out any security or other risks that the changes could present, according to Sophos.

Carole Theriault, senior security consultant at the IT security firm, said that new technologies are always exciting and should be implemented, but expert advice must be sought to help a company make an educated decision.

"As long as there's money to be made and information to be gained, either directly or indirectly, we're going to see people try and attack through them," she commented.

Security remains high on the agenda for many managers implementing things like online timesheets, a report from Infosecurity Europe has underlined, after it was revealed that hacking and denial of service attacks have doubled in the past two years.

Additionally, the rate of adoption of technologies like wireless networking, remote access and VoIP has accelerated during this period.
